The Cannas di Sotto Urban Park is an archaeological green space of approximately three hectares located in the urban fabric of Carbonia, between Corso Iglesias and Via Alghero. It is connected by a covered walkway to the Villa Sulcis Archaeological Museum and houses a vast necropolis of domus de janas , small caves carved into the rock for funerary purposes, dating from the late Neolithic to the early Copper Age.
The necropolis includes at least 26 tombs, some with vertical shafts (the oldest), others with horizontal corridors; many were enlarged during the Neolithic period, modifying the entrances and burial chambers. Over the centuries, the caves were reused as warehouses, kilns, and animal shelters, and the Sa Grutta medau , a typical rural settlement of the Sulcis region, arose on the hill, now home to temporary exhibitions.
The digital tour allows you to navigate the paths, virtually explore the main tombs (such as the monumental Tomb 4), and understand the site's evolution, demonstrating the continuity between the natural landscape and human presence.
