The Serbariu Mine, inaugurated in 1937, was one of the largest mines in Italy, extending over 33 hectares of surface area and 100 km of tunnels.
Today it houses the Coal Museum , which has become an interpretation centre of mining culture and an anchor point of the European Route of Industrial Heritage.
The traditional tour includes the square with the extraction structures and an underground tunnel, where the tools used by miners between the 1930s and 1950s are exhibited and the social history of mining work is told .
The Carbonia 3D project allows you to virtually explore the mine and museum through navigable three-dimensional models: you can walk through the tunnels, observe the lifting equipment, and understand the daily lives of the 18,000 workers who made it the economic heart of the city.
Digitization ensures the preservation of the site and facilitates its consultation by schools, scholars, and international visitors.
