An islet steeped in history, with coastal defenses and ancient settlements

General description
The Tower of San Macario and the nearby islet of the same name form a fascinating landscape and historical complex. The island, located just off the coast, is home to the coastal tower and the remains of settlements linked to fishing, maritime health, and religious life.
Historical notes
The tower was built in the Spanish era (16th–17th century) as a defensive garrison against raids by Saracen pirates.
On the small islet are the remains of a tuna fishery, a lazaretto, and the remains of a Byzantine monastery, which testify to different uses over the centuries.
The islet is surrounded by seabeds rich in biodiversity and submerged finds.

Digitalization and immersive content
The "Pula Digital Heritage" project uses advanced 3D scanning, photogrammetry, and digital modeling technologies to document the area's historical, archaeological, and landscape sites.
Digital models and immersive content allow you to explore heritage even remotely, offering an experience accessible to all and supporting research, dissemination and education activities.
The virtual visits and immersive itineraries are collected in a single digital platform, which allows you to explore the project's digitized sites in an integrated way.
